Entegris' focus on TEGO composite development includes high-value polymers that contain carbon nanotubes for increased thermal and electrical conductivity, as well as tensile strength. The company invested several years of research into developing processes that achieve excellent dispersion of carbon nanotubes into composites. A compounder has to get good dispersion in the polymer in order to reap the benefits of using carbon nanotubes over other carbon compounds.
Additionally, the company has developed proprietary technology for the dispersion of nano-scale materials into VICTREX PEEK and other thermoplastics. Well-dispersed carbon nanotubes in a polymer, like VICTREX PEEK, provide consistent electrostatic discharge (ESD) and improved thermal stability.
