Unify also announced a Composer for Lotus Notes evaluation license designed for organizations to assess the feasibility and viability of migrating all or some of their Notes applications to the .NET environments. Using the Composer Evaluation License, organizations are able to migrate the User Interface, Document Data, Security and Business Logic of a Notes application, and access the application during the 45 day evaluation period. The Evaluation enables ASP.NET developers and or Lotus Notes developers moving to ASP.NET development with knowledge of C#, to perform the evaluation and migration.
"Introduction of the Composer for Lotus Notes Software License provides those customers and SIs who have made the decision to move to the Microsoft platform an ability to directly utilize Composer for Lotus Notes for application migration," said Duane George, vice president of product development and CTO, Unify. "While Unify and its global network of systems integrators perform many Lotus Notes migrations each year, some customers and SIs prefer to implement projects directly and the introduction of the software tool suite directly addresses their requirements."
The Composer for Lotus Notes Tool Set is made up of two major components: the Composer Application Analyzer and the Composer Application Converter. The Composer Application Analyzer performs a detailed analysis of the design of the existing Notes applications to determine the complexity. Redundant code is identified to ensure that only the business logic needed to preserve like-for-like application functionality is migrated.
The Composer Application Converter migrates an entire Lotus Notes application to the Microsoft platform while keeping the user interface, business logic, and workflow intact. Preserving the existing UI, business logic and workflow infrastructure enables customers to eliminate re-training disruption to end-users, ensuring continued worker productivity. The conversion process is fully automated and reduces the typical migration time from months to days, thus reducing the requirements placed on IT resources.
