GlassHouse Technologies Offers New EPIA Services

The new service offered in collaboration with two GlassHouse partner companies, Rackwise and Fortress International Group (formerly Total Site Solutions), improves IT efficiencies and helps companies address the compliance mandates outlined in President Obama's American Clean Energy and Security Act, recently passed by the House of Representatives. The EPIA identifies changes that can be made to streamline IT infrastructure in line with necessary green mandates, without sacrificing mission critical business operations.

Growth in data center operations due to mergers and acquisitions as well as business demand require IT executives to provide more services and support, including hardware and software to the business, but limitations in the data center's physical space as well as constraints on power and cooling create difficulties. Add to that new compliance mandates on energy use and emissions, and the challenges are further complicated. GlassHouse said its new EPIA enables enterprises to address these concerns head on, offering insight into what inefficiencies may be affecting their compliance standing as well as cost-effective solutions and testing options to help ensure they remain in line with new regulations.

The EPIA provides two strategic analysis reports, the Green Proficiency Analysis (GPA) and the Cost Proficiency Analysis (CPA) designed to help organizations identify where changes need to be made to address green inefficiencies and ensure they take the necessary measures to ensure compliance. These reports are powered by the Rackwise Data Center Manager software. The "Green" dashboard is useful in quickly communicating the "Green" status of a data center using the Green Grid's metrics. Cost/Savings Analysis functionality determines the financial impact of proposed data center changes. In addition, customers received a breakdown of the cost-impact these changes will have on overall operations.

Through a five-step process, the GPA provides a current state analysis of the environment and offers recommendations on how to achieve a more efficient, greener IT environment based on metrics established by The Green Grid. Further, the GPA allows enterprise to test changes before implementation to ensure they will not negatively impact mission critical operations. Based on the recommendations outlined in the GPA, the CPA then validates the financial savings of these changes and shows a breakdown of when organizations can expect to see financial ROI from the new, greener practices.
