MillerCoors LLC Tests Sales of New "Home Draft" Systems (TAP)

Jul 29, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) -- TAP | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- MillerCoors LLC has begun testing a 1.5 gallon "home draft" beer dispenser for Miller Lite and Coors Light in about 6 cities including Dallas, Phoenix and San Diego, according to a Wall Street Journal report. As many major beer brands struggle with slipping sales, some are redesigning packaging or offering new products. Molson Coors Brewing (NYSE:TAP) has been posting sales gains that many attribute to its "cold-activated" cans and bottles. Meanwhile, SABMiller's (OTC:SABMRY) Miller Lite has seen a 7.5% drop in sales by volume in the recent period tracked by Information Resources. MillerCoors, a joint venture of the aforementioned companies, hopes to target the 30% of the beer drinkers who say they prefer draft over cans and bottles. The new Home Draft systems cost $20, are recyclable, and are about 15% more expensive per ounce than an 18-pack of the same beer.
