John Parker said he would reinforce the mining company's commitment to the country as well as safety and corporate responsibility.
After a results road show, he also plans to meet with the company's biggest shareholders, he told analysts and investors during the company's first-half results presentation.
Chief Executive Cynthia Carroll and her management team have his "full support," Parker added.
Anglo's board named Parker, 67, chairman-designate on July 10, soon after it rejected Xstrata PLC's (XTA.LN) proposal for a merger of equals as strategically without merit and the terms as totally unacceptable.
