Ajinomoto acquires Japanese rights to P&G's osteoporosis drug
PG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Procter & Gamble has signed a pact with Tokyo-based group Ajinomoto thereby giving the latter the Japanese market rights to its osteoporosis drug for $210 million.
The agreement reportedly allows Ajinomoto to research, develop, manufacture as well as sell the drug, which is to be marketed under the brand name Actonel and is licensed for sale only in the Japanese market.
Procter & Gamble (P&G) had recently announced plans to sell its prescription drug business and has been reportedly negotiating with several companies to the same effect. The Cincinnati-based consumer goods giant aims to focus on over-the-counter products as part of its health business.
