Domestic passenger traffic for the month fell by 14.3% compared to July 2008 at 989,500, while international passenger traffic showed a decrease of 29.3% at 143,600.
The primary factors in the decline in passenger number were reportedly a reduction in Continental Airlines flight; the cancellation of routes by Mexicana, Aeromexico and Aviasca; and the departure of Delta Air Lines from most of OMA's airports since August 2008. These effects were partly offset by VivaAerobus opening a Monterrey-Las Vegas route on 1 July and Aeromexico Connect reopening its Monterrey-San Antonio route on 9 July.
OMA operates 13 international airports in nine states of central and northern Mexico. The airports serve Monterrey, Acapulco, Mazatlan, Zihuatanejo and nine other regional and border cities.
