BEIJING, Aug 12, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
CHUFF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- An insider with China Unicom
(0762.HK; CHU.NYSE) revealed that the telecom operator made a one-off
procurement of five million units of iPhones for 10 billion yuan,
namely 2,000 yuan per unit, reported China Business News.

Zhou Youmeng, deputy general manager of Guangdong Unicom, a
subsidiary of China Unicom in South China's Guangdong province said
that the first batch of iPhones of China Unicom version would be put
on the market in September in part of 3G business outlets of the
telecom service operator.

Besides, an anonymous insider with Guangdong Unicom disclosed
that Apple Inc. changed its persistent business model of profit
sharing for the first time.

Yu Zaonan, manager of the individual customers department of
Guangdong Unicom, said that the carrier would sell the iPhone
handsets a little bit higher than the purchasing prices, with the 8G
version at about 2,400 yuan per units and 16G version at 4,800 yuan.
The pricing standard would be the same as other 3G cell phones
available on the market. But China Unicom is also likely to adopt
bundling sale, namely providing the handsets for free as long as
customers pre-pay certain amount of calling fees.
