CHICAGO, Aug 12, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- PLA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Playboy.com, the world's leading men's website, today announced the promotion of Scott Smith, previously the site's senior editor, to editor and director of content. In his new role, Smith will oversee the editorial content of the site and help expand online awareness of the brand. He is based in the company's Chicago headquarters and reports to Jimmy Jellinek, editorial director of Playboy magazine and Playboy.com.

"Scott's managerial experience and expertise in the digital space make him the perfect choice to oversee the site," said Jellinek. "I am excited to be working with him to build on Playboy.com's success, and continue its growth as the number one entertainment and lifestyle site for men."

Smith, 34, came to Playboy.com with a strong writing and editing background, and expertise in both the technology and entertainment fields. Prior to joining the company, he served as Time Out Chicago's web editor, where he oversaw both the magazine's original online content and its growth as an influential voice in Chicago's blog scene. He began his writing and editing career at the Gothamist network's Chicagoist.com, the city's most popular news and culture blog. During his time there, he worked his way up from staff writer to co-editor, expanding both the blog's team of writers and its original reporting on Chicago's cultural landscape.

As a freelancer, Smith has written for various print and online publications including Time Out Chicago, Metromix.com and CenterstageChicago.com. He has also served as a university and conference lecturer, sharing his expertise on how magazines can launch and maintain their own editorial Web properties, as well as a cultural commentator on a variety of news and entertainment broadcast outlets.

Smith holds a bachelor of science degree in communications from Ohio University.

The recently redesigned Playboy.com offers an array of original content, images, and video; animation; and interactive, customizable content for a new generation of sophisticated men. The site boasts 5 million global monthly visitors (source: Coremetrics June 2009).
