Chad V. Shirey, who was killed May 22 on Eidson Drive, was on his way home when Demario Holden, 20, and Cornilius Price, 17, noticed his car with its 24-inch wheels, Assistant District Attorney Hank Syms said Tuesday in the Richmond County Superior Court bond hearing for the two suspects.
Mr. Syms said Mr. Holden followed Mr. Shirey from a Wrightsboro Road convenience store to Eidson Drive, and Mr. Price got out, masked and armed, to confront Mr. Shirey. When Mr. Shirey tried to drive off, the teen shot him twice, Mr. Syms said.
Mr. Price admitted to being the gunman after he and Mr. Holden were arrested and charged, but he said he didn't think the gun was loaded, the prosecutor said.
Mr. Price, who was sentenced to probation in February on a weapon charge, has an extensive Juvenile Court record. Senior Judge Albert M. Pickett denied bond, deeming him a potential threat to the community.
Mr. Holden's bond hearing was canceled because there is a non-bondable warrant for violation of probation. He was sentenced to three years' probation in September for possession of cocaine.
