Operating loss increased to EUR9.9m in the first half of 2009, as compared with EUR9.1m in the corresponding period of 2008. The company said that this increase is primarily as a result of an increase in research & development costs to EUR7.1m, from EUR5.8m in the corresponding period of 2008.
The greater losses are also related to the clinical development and regulatory work on the company's lead product, Glybera, as well as increased staffing for this and other programmes.
