The company bought 20,028 tons of cocoa beans during the same months of the previous season, according to the figures.
"Yes, we've not bought cocoa beans during the last two months, that is May and June. We're waiting for the season's harvest to move full swing," said an official of Sic Cacao SA, adding that Cameroon is still in the mid-crop harvest, during which "there is less cocoa in the markets."
Sic Cacao, known locally as Societe Industrielle Camerounaise, has the capacity to crush up to 30,000 tons of cocoa beans yearly. Barry Callebaut is its 70% shareholder, while the remaining 30% is owned by the Cameroon government.
Barry Callebaut Cameroon bought 21,000 tons of cocoa beans for processing in the 2007-08 season, down from 21,865 tons the previous season, government and industry data indicate.
