The profits were 438.2 million yuan or 64.2 million in the same quarter of 2008 and 416.7 million yuan in the first quarter of 2009.
In the quarter ended June 30, 2009, the company's revenues amounted to 872.1 million yuan, or US$127.7 million, higher than the market expectation of US$120.43 million.
This includes 781.5 million yuan or US$114.4 million from online games, 17.8 million yuan or US$2.6 million from wireless value-added services (WVAS) and related businesses, and 72.8 million yuan or US$10.7 million from advertising services.
Revenue from the online game section soared 196.9 per cent, but from advertising services decreased by 30 per cent.
Shanghai Netease, which merged with Netease.com (NTES.NASDAQ) in early June, won the operating rights for World of Warcraft, a popular online game developed by the leading US online game developer Blizzard Entertainment. The game resumed services with an open testing program at the end of July.
