Following on the heels of last year's successful show, this year XM Canada's (TSX:XSR) The Verge Music Awards are back bigger and better than ever. Along with the two prestigious awards being handed out - Album of the Year and Artist of the Year, each accompanied by a $25,000 cheque - this will be a night truly dedicated to celebrating top Canadian talent.
"XM Canada is proud to continue showcasing and supporting the amazing talent that's found right here in our backyard," says Jeff Leake, Director of Music Programming at XM Canada.
Fans have been voting for their favourite bands for over a month but those that have yet to vote need not worry, online voting will remain open until August 31st, 2009. Canadians can log on to www.thevergeonline.com/vma and have their voices heard on who they think is at the top of the Canadian musical talent pool for The Verge Music Awards Album of the Year and Artist of the Year.
XM Canada is also holding an exclusive online contest at www.thevergeonline.com/vma, providing a select few the chance to win tickets to attend The Verge Music Awards this year.
This year's show will be held at The Mod Club on September 22nd, 2009 where guests will also be treated to performances by top Canadian bands Metric, The Weakerthans (last year's Artist of the Year winner) and Hey Rosetta! (last year's Album of the Year winner). The show will also be broadcast live-to-air to music fans across Canada on XM Canada's The Verge, channel 87 and namesake of the awards show. Broadcasting new, emerging and independent Canadian talent, The Verge is a major support system for Canada's "indie" music scene and is dedicated to providing Canadian musicians with a platform to expose their music to a national audience.
