The 6,140 sq. ft. Cuisine Centre is located close to the company's Mississauga based head office. The centre was designed and developed primarily for the preparation and assembly of Steamplicity meals.
Compass Group Canada is the first organization to bring Steamplicity technology to Canada.
Steamplicity is a unique and simple cooking method. It uses a combination of steam, pressure and microwave energy to deliver superior, fresh-cooked and wholesome food. Steamplicity's secret is the patented technology, which includes a unique valve that keeps the internal pressure and temperature constant throughout the cooking process. The quick steam cooking process ensures that food retains valuable nutrients and reduces utility usage relative to other food service systems.
All Steamplicity meals are assembled and sealed in the HACCP designed facility, which maintains a temperature of 4C or less. The Cuisine Centre's coolers are monitored to ensure that all meals stay at this temperature for food safety.
In addition to the closely monitored temperatures, the tray sealing machine's metal detector completes a final check on each meal to ensure none of the meals are released with any unwanted particles.
"Steamplicity has been developed with the customer in mind and has resulted in an improvement to food and service standards and increased customer and client satisfaction. The meals have been described as 'excellent and superb,' just like in a fine dining establishment," said Ilona Jonus, Vice President, Steamplicity. "We are absolutely delighted to be the first to bring this culinary innovation to Canada," said Jonus.
Compass Group Canada's Executive Chef Don Giles, along with Compass's team of dietitians developed each of the Steamplicity meals. They are prepared by placing the food in individual or bulk, heat proof, pressure-resistant plastic packages, which are then sealed and refrigerated. All meat and starchy carbohydrates are cooked, while the fish and vegetables - except for frozen peas and corn - are placed in the packages fresh and raw at the Cuisine Centre.
Steamplicity meals are delivered to client sites in temperature controlled trucks, and monitored by data loggers. Prior to service, the meals are pressure cooked in microwaves for three to six minutes using the innovative valve control system. Heating the water molecules within the food builds steam pressure, and the pressure is released gradually through the unique valve to cook the food. Throughout the food preparation and delivery process, systems are in place to ensure food safety and hygiene.
This method of steam cooking is the healthiest way to cook food while retaining the nutritional value, colour, texture and flavour of the meal. Food is cooked just minutes before it is served. There is currently no other method available that takes food and freshly cooks it for immediate consumption.
Steamplicity meals come in three different formats; individual plated meals; multi-portions; and retail vending meals, suitable for healthcare, education and the retail sector. The Cuisine Centre offers a wide variety of menu choices to suit all tastes.
