In a ceremony at Lawson McGhee Library, county officials signed a $16.2 million contract with Trane, Inc. to upgrade 40 buildings,24 parks and 37 traffic intersections. The work is expected to in turn reduce the county's energy costs by up to 36 percent.
County Mayor Mike Ragsdale said the project will be paid for with the energy savings, and that if the savings are not realized, Trane will write a check to the county for the difference.
The is also expected to create or maintain a total of 176 "sustainable" county jobs, and to save more money than it costs.
