Phoenix Cos. Leads Monday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Rises 0.89%

OLDWICK, N.J., Aug 25, 2009 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- IHC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Monday, Aug. 24, at 786.41 (+0.89%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, 13 rose and two declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Phoenix Cos. (+12.80%) and CNinsure Inc. (+10.98%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Independence Holding Co. (-6.37%) and National Security Group (-6.24%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the U.S. Property/Casualty Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1140.92 (+1.91%). Leading the AMBAP were CNinsure Inc. (+10.98%) and Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance (+2.75%). Trailing the AMBAP were Qatar General Ins & Re Co. (-5.92%) and Tower Ltd. (-3.87%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 934.86 (+1.07%). Leading the AMBGR were ING Groep N.V. (+5.25%) and Continental Reinsurance (+4.85%). Trailing the AMBGR were Kenya Reinsurance Co. (-3.39%) and Korean Reinsurance Co. (-2.56%).
