SYMS, one of the first retail stores to offer brand-name clothing from top designers at substantially lower prices, wants to be a part of the solution. The company built its brand by serving a niche in men's tailored clothing and by educating consumers about the clothing it sells. And SYMS recognizes that interpersonal skills, confidence, and style matter when you interview for a job.
The company launched the SYMS Suit Camp Sweepstakes on July 29, giving 30 winners a free brand-name interview suit outfit (valued at $400), a session with expert stylist Roger McKenzie, and a session with interview coach Trisha Scudder at the SYMS Suit Camp in New York City.
Expert stylist Roger McKenzie will assist winners in picking out the "right suit" and offer style tips for dressing for the office, including how to put together a complete interview ensemble (for both men and women); appropriate fabrics, colors, and patterns; the importance of a well-fitted suit; pointers on men's jackets and wearing ties; tips on appropriate heel height and skirt length for women; and putting everything together with work-appropriate accessories.
Interview coach and CEO of Executive Coaching Group, Inc., Trisha Scudder will offer tips and personal training to help prepare the job seekers for their next interview. Having coached over 200 CEOs, presidents, and directors of marketing, she will be providing interview do's and don'ts on everything from researching the company and preparing answers to the most common interview questions, to interview killers, such as rambling and using negative nonverbal language. She'll also help winners with resume tips and teach them how to master the handshake.
"With today's market conditions, we know that recent graduates and those seeking employment need a competitive advantage in the workforce," says SYMS Spokesperson Mark Buchak. "At SYMS, savvy shoppers can afford to get a 'style' advantage on any budget. The winners from our sweepstakes will be equipped with the tools they need to hit the job market with self-assurance."
The deadline to enter in SYMS stores, September 2, is fast approaching and SYMS is encouraging last-minute contestants to participate by filling out a sweepstakes application in any one of its stores in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, or Virginia, or online at www.UncleSYMS.com. Entries will continue to be accepted online through September 19, 2009.
From August 20, 2009, through September 25, 2009, 30 winners will be chosen at random to receive the SYMS prize. "We want to help those who are seeking jobs," adds Buchak. "There are employment opportunities that are attainable, but candidates must be educated on how to impress during an interview. We're encouraging our winners to get creative, get prepared, and, most importantly, to get the interview!"
