Conseco Leads Tuesday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Rises 0.88%

OLDWICK, N.J., Aug 26, 2009 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- TCHC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 793.33 (+0.88%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, 14 rose and one declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Conseco (+22.01%) and Insure.com (+16.24%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were 21st Century Holding Co. (-3.51%) and National Interstate Corp. (-2.92%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the Asia/Pacific Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 839.86 (+0.49%). Leading the AMBEUR were Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. (+2.57%) and Catlin Group (+2.48%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Old Mutual PLC (-1.75%) and Mapfre S.A. (-1.49%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1137.19 (-0.33%). Leading the AMBAP were CNinsure Inc. (+4.57%) and Qatar General Ins & Re Co. (+3.70%). Trailing the AMBAP were Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co. Ltd. (-2.23%) and Tower Ltd. (-1.72%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 940.85 (+0.64%). Leading the AMBGR were Continental Reinsurance (+4.63%) and Aspen Insurance Holdings (+3.50%). Trailing the AMBGR were QBE Insurance Group Ltd. (-1.60%) and Mapfre S.A. (-1.49%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 989.30 (+0.68%). Leading the AMBGB were Insure.com (+16.24%) and CNinsure Inc. (+4.57%). Trailing the AMBGB were National Financial Partners (-0.92%) and eHealth Inc. (-0.22%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 575.49 (+0.71%). Leading the AMBGML were Atlantic American Corp. (+11.25%) and Hartford Financial Services Group (+7.46%). Trailing the AMBGML were Hannover Rueckversicherungs AG (-1.38%) and Generali Deutschland Holding (-1.14%).

The Global Nonlife Insurance Index (AMBGNL) closed at 1038.82 (+0.43%). Leading the AMBGNL were Old Republic International (+4.68%) and CNA Financial (+4.13%). Trailing the AMBGNL were 21st Century Holding Co. (-3.51%) and National Interstate Corp. (-2.92%).

The Global Life Insurance Index (AMBGL) closed at 767.07 (+1.50%). Leading the AMBGL were Conseco (+22.01%) and Phoenix Cos. (+13.03%). Trailing the AMBGL were Old Mutual PLC (-1.75%) and Centene Corp. (-1.53%).

The U.S. Property/Casualty Index (AMBUPC) closed at 1045.61 (+0.75%). Leading the AMBUPC were Old Republic International (+4.68%) and CNA Financial (+4.13%). Trailing the AMBUPC were 21st Century Holding Co. (-3.51%) and National Interstate Corp. (-2.92%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBUML) closed at 182.06 (+2.30%). Leading the AMBUML were Atlantic American Corp. (+11.25%) and Hartford Financial Services Group (+7.46%). Trailing the AMBUML were AIG (+0.35%) and HCC Insurance Holdings (+0.38%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 809.27 (+2.49%). Leading the AMBUL were Conseco (+22.01%) and Phoenix Cos. (+13.03%). Trailing the AMBUL were Independence Holding Co. (-0.49%) and Presidential Life Corp. (-0.09%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 839.72 (+1.77%). Leading the AMBULH were Conseco (+22.01%) and Phoenix Cos. (+13.03%). Trailing the AMBULH were Centene Corp. (-1.53%) and Independence Holding Co. (-0.49%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 868.68 (+1.01%). Leading the AMBUH were United American Healthcare (+6.58%) and Unum Group (+3.64%). Trailing the AMBUH were Centene Corp. (-1.53%) and Aetna (-0.47%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 922.50 (+0.02%). Leading the AMBUB were Insure.com (+16.24%) and Life Partners (+2.97%). Trailing the AMBUB were National Financial Partners (-0.92%) and eHealth Inc. (-0.22%).
