Burke's Outlet to open in Athens

Aug 27, 2009 (The News Courier - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- GDYS | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The old Goody's Family Clothing building that has stood empty for months, is now filled with workers preparing the space for it's new tenant, Burke's Outlet.

Burke's Outlet plans to hold its Athens grand opening Oct. 9, said Burke's sales promotion assistant, Patti Alderson.

"We've taken a number of Goody's locations. Most of the Goody's are nice locations," said Bill Webster, the director of public and government affairs for parent company Beall's, Inc.

Burke's Outlet offers closeout items from private label merchants such as apparel for men, women, children, plus sizes, juniors and young men, shoes and home items. Every customer is also eligible for special discounts at Burke's Outlet each week, Webster said.

Burke's offers a 15 percent discount on Mondays to customers age 50 and older, and on Fridays to those who are under age 50.

Burke's chose to open in Athens because they liked the demographics.

"Our business in Alabama has been phenomenal," Webster said. " We like the demographics and didn't feel like it was over stored ... Town Center has a nice assortment of merchants there."

The Athens location, fully staffed, will hold approximately 18 positions. The location is currently considering applicants. To apply, visit www.hotjobs.com.
