"It has been an honor and a privilege of mine to be a member of this historic publication," McFadden said. "And now, I'm grateful for this new opportunity and look forward to taking the lead in keeping a spotlight on the people in our community and on providing useful information." Nearly five years ago, Mcfadden, a graduate of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg with a bachelor's degree in English, joined the local newspaper as a correspondent and columnist. Hired in January 2005, he served the community first as a sports correspondent, spending a year covering sports throughout Marion County. He then transitioned to a part time position and then became a full-time staff writer. In 2007, Mcfadden received a South Carolina Press Association award for Sports Column writing. "I've learn so much over the years, primarily thanks to former editor Dianne P. Owens, photographer Johnny Ellis, fellow-journalist Jennifer Bartell and sports correspondent Mike Jenkins," he said. "We have a wonderful staff here at the office in advertising representatives Kathy Sawyer and Pam Ammons, with Sandy Fowler keeping our ship sailing as she fills several roles as the customer service representative." McFadden has seen many changes at the weekly newspaper, with an increased emphasis on daily reporting through the newspaper's page on the SCNow.com Web site and as a member of a converged multi-media company. The ongoing development as a multi-media journalist has resulted in a number of personal goals being accomplished, Mcfadden said, adding "It's wonderful to be in this position. I appreciate everyone who contributes to the legacy of the Star & Enterprise newspaper ... a lot of credit goes to the many individuals who have been helpful and great to work with along this journey." You'll find the new editor throughout the area, covering community events and supporting local athletic programs. The self-described sports fanatic is also a guest host on the "Sports Talk" radio show with Michael Jenkins on WJAY/JOY 1280 AM on Saturdays at 12:30 p.m. You may even catch him live on camera for convergence partner WBTW TV13 and his stories also appear in the region's daily newspaper, the Morning News. You can contact him by email at or by phone (843) 423-2050. To see more of the Star & Enterprise or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.scnow.com/scp/community/star_and_enterprise/.
