The airport's board of directors approved a USD20.75m package for the URS Corporation of Dallas to start the preliminary design work for the renovation of DFW's Terminal's A, B, C and E, which were opened at the same time of the airport in 1974. Total costs for the Terminal Development Program are currently in review, but are expected to be between USD1.5bn and USD2.0bn. Funding will come from bond sales, available capital and other sources. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2011. Terminal A will be the first terminal completed, expected some time in 2014, with the whole project scheduled for completion by the end of 2017. The construction phase will require a third of each terminal to be closed at a time. Under the design concept, concessions areas will be consolidated into villages similar to those in DFW's International Terminal D, which cost USD1.2bn and was opened in 2005. DFW's Terminal Development Program is part of the airport's Master Plan, which also includes plans to accommodate regional rail services from Dallas Area Rapid Transit and The Fort Worth Transportation Authority, as well as participation in area highway renovation programmes and other initiatives.
