Volkswagen of Cedar Rapids franchise moved to Hiawatha
VLKAY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Volkswagen of Cedar Rapids has moved from Marion to the owner's Cedar Rapids Toyota campus in Hiawatha.
Cedar Rapids Toyota owner Scott Ryan said he decided to move the dealership, effective Monday, into the former L2 usedcar lot, 1190 Boyson Rd., that he acquired in the fall from Lithia Motors.
It's next to Toyota of Cedar Rapids.
"We made the move for synergy and to keep everything close together under two roofs, rather than under three," Ryan said.
Moving Volkswagen into the used-car operation will provide more staffing flexibility to meet customer service needs, Ryan added.
Ryan acquired the Cedar Rapids Volkswagen franchise from Mickey Chrysler Dodge and moved it to the former Toyota dealership loca tion, 675 Blairs Ferry Rd.
Marion, in spring 2008.
Business at the Volkswagen franchise has not been disappointing, Ryan said, although it has been affected by the recession.
"We're down somewhat, but not like the auto industry overall," Ryan said.
The federal govern ment's "Cash for Clunkers" stimulus program helped both dealerships, Ryan said, although the Toyota dealership benefitted the most.
"We pretty much sold out of Toyotas," Ryan said.
