PowerRating -- 9/6/2009 - Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum sued Systemax Inc. (NYSE:SYX) and its subsidiaries, citing that the companies failed to pay advertised rebates to consumers. The consumers reported that the rebate programs were difficult to navigate and often led to them giving up their rights to rebates. The lawsuits claims rebate requests received by the company often went unprocessed, allowing the offers to expire. Many requests that were submitted were often done improperly, often leading to being denied rebates. Consumers that would call asking about the rebates were often left on hold and then misled about the status of their rebate. The Attorney General is seeking a permanent injunction against the company and its subsidiaries that would prevent them from unreasonably denying or delaying proper rebate payments as well as reimbursement for the customers already affected.
