An aftermarket kit allowing SYNC to interface with Visteon's Navigation Radio System is now available for most Ford and Lincoln models through dealers and distributors, the company said. The kit includes a direct connect harness and interface box that enables SYNC to be operated from the touch screen on the Visteon Navigation Radio System.
"Navigation is one of the industry's hottest accessories categories, and this user-friendly interface brings navigation capability to SYNC users without sacrificing the SYNC technology," said Jonathan Weisberg, Visteon's director of mobile electronics - aftermarket. "This breakthrough product resulted from Visteon's experience in navigation systems with Ford and other vehicle manufacturers, as well as our expertise in the integration of hardware and software in vehicles."
More than 80 percent of Ford's nameplates in North America, according to a release, are available with SYNC, a fully integrated, voice-activated, in-car communications and entertainment system for mobile phones and digital music players. Ford has delivered more than 1 million SYNC systems since the product made its debut in 2007 on the Ford Focus, the company said.
The Visteon Navigation Radio System features fully integrated GPS navigation, a multimedia disc player for CDs and DVDs, iPod player command and control, Bluetooth wireless hands-free phone operation and streaming audio, rear backup camera video input and other functionality.
Visteon Corp. is a global automotive supplier that designs, engineers and manufactures climate, interior, electronic and lighting products for vehicle manufacturers, and also provides a range of products and services to aftermarket customers.
