On Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 7:30 pm, the Apollo Theater will recognize its long and storied history with Gospel Music by hosting a special Amateur Night where Gospel's best new faces will perform on the World's most critical stage. The special guest host for the evening will be WLIB Personality, Pastor Hezekiah Walker with a special performance from the WLIB Gospel Choir.
Diamond Holloway couldn't resist recording a tune inside the MyStudio located inside Scottsdale Fashion Square mall while she was on vacation with her parents in Arizona. She never imagined that this one impromptu moment inside a shopping mall would help land her on the same stage as some of the biggest legends in music.
Diamond was born in New Orleans, LA, into a singing family and has been involved in dancing and singing recitals since she was 3 years old. Her mother aunts and uncles traveled through-out Memphis, TN as a gospel quartet singing group called the Brown Singers. Diamond also has roots in Blues music because her Grandmother Stella Reeder's father, McKinley "MC" Reeder, was one of the first prominent African-American proponents of propagating the blues sound into main stream American music through his venue, the "T-99" social club in Osceola, Arkansas, where the late Albert King, among other popular blues artist, performed regularly. Diamond has performed in many charity events and she attributes her abilities to her faith in God and her parents.
The Apollo's signature talent competition has been entertaining audiences on Wednesday evenings since the Apollo's very first season and has launched the careers of some of the world's greatest entertainers, including Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, and Michael Jackson, to name only a few.
