System passenger traffic (revenue passenger miles) for the month rose by 4.4% compared to August 2008, while capacity (available seat miles) increased by 7.4%.
Domestic passenger traffic in Chile, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador for August 2009 grew by 10.2% compared to the same period of last year, while capacity rose by 17.3%, resulting in a drop in domestic load factor of 4.7 percentage points at 73.4%.
International passenger traffic for August 2009 improved by 2.1% compared to August 2008, while capacity increased by 3.5%, resulting in an international load factor of 77.8%, a decrease of 1.1 percentage points. International passenger traffic accounted for around 70% of LAN's total passenger traffic in August.
LAN's cargo traffic for the month fell by 4.2% compared to August 2008, primarily as a result of a slowdown in import and export markets in Latin America, according to the airline.
