In his new position, he will oversee retail banking, commercial markets, specialized businesses, private banking and residential mortgages.

Of Wachovia's top 16 officials before it was bought by Wells Fargo & Co. on Dec. 31, 11 have now left, including chief executive Bob Steel. Davis had been Southeast wholesale banking executive at Wachovia, but his position at the combined company had been unclear. He had been Wachovia's highest-ranking African-American executive.
