Gainsco Leads Friday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Rises 0.44%

OLDWICK, N.J., Sep 14, 2009 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- AAME | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Friday, Sept. 11, at 802.56 (+0.44%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, 10 rose and five declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Gainsco (+5.29%) and SeaBright Insurance Holdings (+4.91%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Atlantic American Corp. (-7.58%) and eHealth Inc. (-4.56%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1185.98 (+1.39%). Leading the AMBAP were CNinsure Inc. (+4.76%) and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co. Ltd. (+1.77%). Trailing the AMBAP were Korean Reinsurance Co. (-2.67%) and Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance (-1.64%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 951.03 (-0.07%). Leading the AMBGR were Continental Reinsurance (+4.38%) and Max Capital Group (+3.43%). Trailing the AMBGR were Swiss Reinsurance (-2.81%) and Kenya Reinsurance Co. (-2.73%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 994.00 (+0.29%). Leading the AMBGB were CNinsure Inc. (+4.76%) and Life Partners (+1.55%). Trailing the AMBGB were eHealth Inc. (-4.56%) and AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (-2.33%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 598.74 (+1.21%). Leading the AMBGML were AXA S.A. (+3.28%) and Allianz (+2.08%). Trailing the AMBGML were Atlantic American Corp. (-7.58%) and Delphi Financial Group (-2.04%).

The U.S. Property/Casualty Index (AMBUPC) closed at 1040.38 (+0.08%). Leading the AMBUPC were Gainsco (+5.29%) and SeaBright Insurance Holdings (+4.91%). Trailing the AMBUPC were Meadowbrook Insurance Group (-3.52%) and Mercer Insurance Group (-2.96%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 784.63 (-0.20%). Leading the AMBUL were Genworth Financial (+3.72%) and Reinsurance Group of America Inc. (+2.38%). Trailing the AMBUL were Presidential Life Corp. (-2.50%) and Ameriprise Financial (-2.42%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 823.34 (+0.10%). Leading the AMBULH were Genworth Financial (+3.72%) and Centene Corp. (+3.21%). Trailing the AMBULH were Presidential Life Corp. (-2.50%) and Ameriprise Financial (-2.42%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 861.93 (+0.41%). Leading the AMBUH were Centene Corp. (+3.21%) and Universal American (+3.18%). Trailing the AMBUH were Health Net (-1.49%) and Triple-S Management Corp. (-1.28%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 916.35 (-0.64%). Leading the AMBUB were Life Partners (+1.55%) and Willis Group Holdings (+1.14%). Trailing the AMBUB were eHealth Inc. (-4.56%) and AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (-2.33%).
