VIASPACE, Inc. (VSPC) announced a agreement with the largest biomass electric power provider in China. The Company announced this week that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Beijing-based DP CleanTech Company Limited, which is engaged in the design and construction of biomass power plants. DP CleanTech owns and operates 19 biomass power plants that are capable of generating a combined total of more than 400 megawatts (MW) electric power. The Company is an alternative energy company providing products and technology for renewable and clean energy that reduce or eliminate dependence on fossil fuels and other high-pollutant energy sources. The Company provides raw materials for use as biomass and for producing cellulosic biofuels, and develops and markets fuel cell cartridges, products and technology. VIASPACE produces Giant King Grass, a fast-growing and high-yield carbon-neutral crop that offers significant competitive advantages over other energy crops such as switchgrass and agricultural waste such as corn straw. The main advantage is that it is 2-5 times higher yield-per-acre than switchgrass, which translates into substantially more energy per acre. Dr. Carl Kukkonen, was interviewed Monday on WallSt.Net's "The Elevator Pitch," and commented, "DP CleanTech had our Giant King Grass tested and determined that its had excellent energy content and gives them the opportunity for a dedicated energy crop. In about 3,000 acres, we can generate enough electricity for 20,000 U.S. households and 100,000 households in China." The Company is growing Giant King Grass in Guangdong province in China and is also looking for additional growing opportunities in Indonesia, India, Africa, Central America and South America. Giant King Grass offers economic advantages as well as energy efficiency, since it is a non-food crop that can be grown on land that is marginal for other agricultural purposes. Dr. Kukkonen added, "The high productivity of Giant King Grass has the ability to replace all the coal used in the world used for electricity generation with only a 3% increase in crop lands." He concluded the interview, "We are the only dedicated energy crop company operating in Asia that is not involved in biodiesel. We are not building power plants and fuel plants, but we are providing the recurring revenue stream from the fuel. We can achieve significant revenues with nice margins. We are at an early stage, but we have a good product and partnerships. We will soon have other announcements that will make us look like a real bargain."
