Jim Varallo has more than 35 years of business experience, both as an entrepreneur in commercial real estate and as a specialist in mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Since 1990, he has owned and operated Varallo Investment Properties, assisting business sellers and buyers in hundreds of transactions throughout the U.S.
"Jim is among the most outstanding mergers and acquisitions practitioners that I've met in my 23 years in the business" said Scarlata. "He has a superb knowledge of what makes a privately held business tick, understands the motivations of business owners who are selling their companies, and has an in-depth understanding of what it takes to close a deal. We couldn't be more pleased to have Jim as a member of our M&A team here in the Southeast."
Varallo's association with The March Group brings his career almost full-circle. In 1986, he negotiated the acquisition of the business brokerage and M&A business that was to become The March Group.
"Under the leadership of Bob and his partner, George Gifford, the company has grown into the nation's leading and most respected middle-market M&A firm," said Varallo. "I am excited to be associated with The March Group and to work with Bob Scarlata again."
Varallo is well-known in the Nashville business community. Son of Frank and Eva Varallo, who operated the city's fabled Varallo's Restaurant on Church Street for seven decades, Varallo became the owner and manager of the family-operated food manufacturing company while in his early 20s and a student at Vanderbilt University. Over the next 10 years, he expanded its market from Nashville into 13 states.
After selling Varallo Foods, he joined the forerunner to The March Group, and became a business broker, working in the mergers & acquisitions industry. Varallo continued to work with The March Group as a Senior Managing Director until 1990 when he launched his own company, Varallo Investment Properties (VIP). VIP has assisted sellers and buyers in hundreds of transactions. Among VIP's prominent local projects were the relocation of Region's Bank headquarters office to Union Street; the renovation of the historic 315 Union Street building; the relocation of the main offices of Southeast Telecom to the airport area; and the relocation of the Nashville Bar Association from 4th Avenue North to 315 Union Street.
Varallo is a licensed Captain who enjoys boating in southeastern inland waterways, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean with his family. A member of Cedar Creek Yacht Club, he served as a Board Member for five years and as Chairman in 1997. During that period, he oversaw the expansion and renovation of the clubhouse and harbor. He is a long-time member of St. Stephen Catholic Community and has been in its choir for 23 years. Varallo is married to Deborah Varallo, owner and president of Varallo Public Relations. Their daughter, 20, is a sophomore at the University of Alabama where she is studying International Business and Marketing.
