InsWeb Leads Wednesday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Rises 2.84%

OLDWICK, N.J., Sep 17, 2009 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- TCHC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 823.52 (+2.84%). All 15 A.M. Best stock indexes rose. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were InsWeb (+31.43%) and Conseco (+16.44%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were 21st Century Holding Co. (-5.80%) and Coventry Health Care (-4.68%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the Global Non-Life Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 885.32 (+2.75%). Leading the AMBEUR were Aegon N.V. (+6.39%) and ING Groep N.V. (+5.36%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Hansard Global (-3.90%) and Brit Insurance Holdings (-0.84%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1198.48 (+1.94%). Leading the AMBAP were Dongbu Insurance Co. (+6.89%) and Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Co. Ltd. (+6.80%). Trailing the AMBAP were China Taiping Insurance Holdings Co. Ltd. (-3.02%) and Austbrokers Holdings (-2.24%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 972.50 (+2.74%). Leading the AMBGR were Aegon N.V. (+6.39%) and ING Groep N.V. (+5.36%). Trailing the AMBGR were China Taiping Insurance Holdings Co. Ltd. (-3.02%) and Kenya Reinsurance Co. (-1.83%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 1018.86 (+2.31%). Leading the AMBGB were InsWeb (+31.43%) and Insure.com (+6.00%). Trailing the AMBGB were Hansard Global (-3.90%) and Austbrokers Holdings (-2.24%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 613.45 (+2.71%). Leading the AMBGML were Hartford Financial Services Group (+10.69%) and First Acceptance Corp. (+10.65%). Trailing the AMBGML were Hannover Rueckversicherungs AG (-0.10%) and Arab Orient Insurance Co. (0.00%).

The Global Nonlife Insurance Index (AMBGNL) closed at 1068.12 (+1.80%). Leading the AMBGNL were Kingsway Financial Services (+8.44%) and Dongbu Insurance Co. (+6.89%). Trailing the AMBGNL were 21st Century Holding Co. (-5.80%) and Gainsco (-3.16%).

The Global Life Insurance Index (AMBGL) closed at 791.67 (+4.12%). Leading the AMBGL were Conseco (+16.44%) and Phoenix Cos. (+10.47%). Trailing the AMBGL were Coventry Health Care (-4.68%) and United American Healthcare (-3.51%).

The U.S. Property/Casualty Index (AMBUPC) closed at 1067.81 (+1.87%). Leading the AMBUPC were First Acceptance Corp. (+10.65%) and Baldwin & Lyons (+5.69%). Trailing the AMBUPC were 21st Century Holding Co. (-5.80%) and Gainsco (-3.16%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBUML) closed at 200.40 (+4.76%). Leading the AMBUML were Hartford Financial Services Group (+10.69%) and Delphi Financial Group (+4.44%). Trailing the AMBUML were Atlantic American Corp. (0.00%) and Assurant (+1.60%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 839.65 (+4.53%). Leading the AMBUL were Conseco (+16.44%) and Phoenix Cos. (+10.47%). Trailing the AMBUL were Investors Heritage Capital Co. (0.00%) and Reinsurance Group of America Inc. (+0.25%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 860.79 (+4.23%). Leading the AMBULH were Conseco (+16.44%) and Phoenix Cos. (+10.47%). Trailing the AMBULH were Coventry Health Care (-4.68%) and United American Healthcare (-3.51%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 878.88 (+3.89%). Leading the AMBUH were UnitedHealth Group (+5.74%) and Health Net (+5.27%). Trailing the AMBUH were Coventry Health Care (-4.68%) and United American Healthcare (-3.51%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 942.02 (+2.05%). Leading the AMBUB were InsWeb (+31.43%) and Insure.com (+6.00%). Trailing the AMBUB were AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (-1.27%) and Kingstone Cos. Inc. (0.00%).
