In exchange, top ice companies agreed not to compete against the Dallas-based company in Nevada and the South, the complaint said. Reddy Ice officials and the company's attorney couldn't be reached for comment. They have 60 days to respond to the complaint. The company's stock fell 35 cents Thursday to close at $5.75. The amended complaint, filed by buyers of packaged ice, is part of a lawsuit targeting Reddy Ice, the nation's largest packaged iced company, and two other large ice producers. It gives previously undisclosed details about the allegations. The U.S. Justice Department has acknowledged that it is looking into allegations of anti-competitive practices in the ice business. The lawsuit, and a similar one filed by retailers and other "direct" ice customers, targets Reddy Ice, Winnipeg-based Arctic Glacier and Home City Ice of Cincinnati. Last year, Thomas Sedler, chief executive of Home City, pleaded guilty to violating antitrust law. Officials with Arctic Glacier did not return calls seeking comment. The new complaint includes comments from Martin G. McNulty, who says he was fired from Arctic Glacier because he wouldn't participate in the alleged conspiracy. The complaint says a supervisor, Keith Corbin, told McNulty that Arctic Glacier had an agreement with Reddy Ice and Home City to geographically divide the U.S. market. Corbin allegedly told McNulty that Arctic Glacier had agreed not to enter the South and Southeast "to enable Reddy Ice to increase packaged ice prices," the complaint says. "Reddy Ice and Arctic Glacier agreed that Arctic Glacier could have California and that Arctic Glacier would not compete with Reddy Ice in Arizona and Nevada." In 1997, about 10 percent of Reddy Ice's revenue was from California, the complaint says. "In 2001 ... it stopped selling packaged ice in California."
