The partnership particularly highlights the intelligent environment service network (IENet) technology, which was developed by Chunghwa Telecom, the Taiwan mobile operator, to facilitate the automatic management and maintenance of telecoms networks as well as lift such networks' air conditioning efficiency. As part of the cooperation, Chunghwa Telecom and China Telecom have reportedly decided to start the IENet trial run in the southeastern Chinese city of Fuzhou. They are also said to co-establish a subsidiary with IENet companies in both the mainland and Taiwan, however, the Taiwan mobile operator declined to comment on the so-called joint venture. In addition, Chunghwa Telecom and another mainland mobile operator China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (SEHK: 0762 and NYSE: CHU) began slashing their roaming fees by about 50% from September 1, 2009.
