MOVIQ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Moscow Police are searching for a suspect in a reported armed robbery at the Movie Gallery late Saturday.

The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. at the video store in the Eastside Marketplace. Moscow Assistant Police Chief David Duke said an employee told police a Hispanic man came into the store and walked around the back until other customers left.

The suspect, who was wearing a handkerchief over his face, then approached the employee at the counter and brandished a "black semi-automatic-type pistol with a laser sight below the barrel," Duke said.

The suspect handed the employee a duffel bag and told him to put money in the bag. Duke said the employee gave him all the money in the till -- more than $800.

The suspect then "fled the store, east, on foot, out the east exit," Duke said.

The employee, who was uninjured in the encounter, called 911. Officers who responded to the scene were unable to locate the suspect in the area. Duke said police have no leads at this time, but are reviewing video surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

He said investigators spoke with employees at the Latah County Fair across the street from the Eastside Marketplace, but the carnival workers did not know of anyone who matched the description.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet tall and 230 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was reportedly wearing blue jeans, white shoes and a gray pullover sweatshirt with a hood and pocket and red or orange lettering.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery or who believes they have seen the suspect to call the Moscow Police Department at (208) 882-2677, or the department's anonymous tip line at (208) 892-3898.
