Every year, Linktone will offer more than 3,000 live MLB matches plus related VODs, interviews, and news to baseball fans in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines, via the fixed-line and mobile Internet. The MLB business is expected to serve as an opportunity for Linktone's expansion in such region's markets of Internet and mobile music, video, image, news and game.
Baseball is far from prevalence in the Chinese mainland presently, but has exceeded soccer in terms of popularity in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, said analysts. Upon earlier reports, Kenny Huang, partner of the MLB team New York Yankees, has signed a 15-year agreement with the Chinese Baseball Association about cultivating the China Youth Baseball League (CYBL).
