Bermuda International Business Association to Host Annual Bermuda Financial Services Conference in New York

HAMILTON, Bermuda, Sept 23, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- SOVW | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The Bermuda International Business Association will host its Annual Bermuda Financial Services Conference at The Harvard Club in New York City on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM.

The Conference will feature an exciting lineup of speakers including a luncheon keynote speech by Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance the Honorable Paula Cox, JP, MP. In addition, Mr. Matthew Elderfield, CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority will update the U.S. market on Bermuda's regulatory approach particularly in light of recent financial services issues. Ms. Casey Reckman, Sovereign Wealth Analyst for Fitch Ratings, will welcome guests in the morning with an overview of Bermuda's and its position in the global economy.

A delegation of Bermuda international business executives representing Bermuda's financial services industry will host eight interactive and informative panel sessions for conference attendees on a range of topics including: Choosing Bermuda, Infrastructure and Energy, Funds and Fund Administration, Private Wealth Management, Trusts, Convergence, Insurance / Reinsurance and Captives, and Capital Markets.

Minister Cox said today, "I am looking forward to attending and speaking at this year's Conference, especially in light of all the new developments this year. We have maintained our standards of excellence in the global arena and the recognition has been given. We were placed on the OECD white list in June. Then, on 2nd September, Bermuda was elected Vice Chair of the Steering Group of the new Global Forum consolidating our blue chip reputation. I look forward to telling the Bermuda story and supporting the efforts of the Bermuda International Business Association in promoting Bermuda as the financial jurisdiction of choice."

The one-day intensive conference in New York is designed to highlight Bermuda's competitive strengths vis-a-vis other jurisdictions emphasizing key competitive advantages including Bermuda's regulatory and tax standing, the sophistication and expertise of its service providers and Bermuda's significant progress in addressing the many challenges facing financial services businesses in the wake of the global economic meltdown and the emergence of new global financial regulation and tax issues.
