According to Ostling, the bottom has already been hit and the market is about to start rising again.
The year 2009 has so far been disastrous for truck makers and Scania is no exception. Sales of new vehicles are down to extremely low levels and the otherwise profitable customer financing business has registered losses.
Ostling said that the next peak in the truck cycle will occur around 2016-2017. He expects that the company will then sell about 150,000 vehicles and a big part of them will be exported to the east.
"I am totally convinced that Russia will make a come-back. Then we are not talking about 8,000 vehicles, but about double as much, so big is demand," he told DI.
On the contrary, a market Ostling is not too hopeful about is China, where he expects demand for lighter vehicles to dominate for a long time ahead.
