Residents of Cedar Creek donned aprons and carried food trays for the luncheon, which raised money for the club's contributions to local charities.
This was the first of the Ladies' Club's seven annual fundraisers, and the club will select its charities and make its contributions in May as the fiscal year ends, according to club Ways and Means Committee Chairwoman Barb Collins, who served as hostess for the luncheon.
"We also have jumbo pecan sales and flower bulb sales going on now through November," Collins said. "At the end of November, we'll have our annual holiday bazaar and bake sale. In January, we'll be doing a breakfast just like this at Applebee's. In February, we'll be selling heart-warming soups, chili and homemade breads, and in March, we're having a fashion show and tea presented by Chico's."
The club sold advance tickets to the luncheon and expected more than 60 diners for the event.
Said diner Mary Ellen Inderrieden, "This is our entire Scrabble group, there are eight of us plus one member's husband, and one of our members has a birthday today. Our friends are the waiters today, so we thought this would be fun."
Diners could choose between steak or chicken entrees, with Caesar salad, bread, vegetables, dessert and unlimited soft drinks; beer and Outback's house wines were available by the glass for an additional charge.
"We want to be involved in anything that deals with charities, especially with Cedar Creek -- we do a lot with the Cedar Creek Ladies' Club," Outback owner Neil Arbaugh said. "We like being the No. 1 provider for charity lunches; it gets our name out there in the community."
Cedar Creek residents waiting tables at the event included Linda Engelman, Susan Pickett, Michael Collins, Geri Ferenchik, Dru Downie, Celeste Malinowski, Linda Goheen, Jan Van Buren and Jean Stephenson.
"I thought this would be fun. I haven't waited tables in 50 years -- we'll see if I've still got it," Downie said before the doors opened.
