Newsweek ranked the top 500 American companies based on their resource use and emissions, policies and strategies, and reputation among peers. The 500 companies included in the ranking were chosen according to their revenue, market capitalization, and number of employees. The "green score" of each company was based on three components: Environmental Impact, Green Policies and Performance, and Reputation Survey. Brown-Forman ranked number 63 among all 500 companies rated. "We are proud to be ranked in the top three of beverage companies and in the top tier of all 500 companies rated," said Brown-Forman Vice Chairman Jim Welch. "Our experience demonstrates that progressive environmental programs can contribute to solid long-term financial results." "Brown-Forman has a long history of environmental stewardship but we also realize that there's more to do in achieving our goal of being responsible in everything we do," added Jill Jones, Senior Vice President of Global Production. "We are building upon our tradition and seek to continually improve our performance in ways that are good for the environment and our business." Brown-Forman just published its second corporate responsibility report, available online at brown-forman.com, and in August launched a wide-ranging online Issues Forum, ourthinkingaboutdrinking.com, as part of its comprehensive corporate responsibility initiative. The Issues Forum shares balanced research and Brown-Forman's position on critical alcohol issues and encourages comments and opinions from those who visit the site.
