WASHINGTON, Sep 25, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- WPO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The Washington Post Magazine, offered each Sunday from The Washington Post, will unveil a new look and new features for its readers beginning this weekend.

In the redesigned Magazine, readers will still find Date Lab, restaurant reviews from The Post's food critic Tom Sietsema, "Below the Beltway" musings from Gene Weingarten, profiles of Washingtonians in First Person Singular and Second Glance and Crossword puzzles. All of which will be anchored by the compelling narratives and long-form reported pieces the Magazine is known for.

New features include:

-- "Whatever Happened To," an update on previously featured stories in the Post.

-- "Our Town," a visual story as told by two Post artists, who recount a slice of life they encountered in the Washington area.

-- "Unspun," a quick, entertaining interview with a politician.

-- "The Breakdown," quirky, little-known facts about often-seen objects.

-- "Trend Report," a weekly take on fashion and beauty that will feature local shops.

-- "Behind the Lens," the story behind a powerful Washington Post photograph, and more.

In addition, DC-area readers can now be part of the very popular Second Glance puzzle, as the Magazine invites reader photos for the feature.

"We've taken what readers have always loved about the Magazine and given them even more features about life and living in the Washington area," said Debra Leithauser, Editor of The Washington Post Magazine. "Each week our aim is to offer a great mix of stories, from lively quick takes to engaging deep reads. And it's all packaged in a clean and sophisticated new design, thanks to our award-winning art director, Janet Michaud."

The Going Out Guide, The Post's definitive resource for local entertainment planning, will also be in the Magazine, offering advice from Post experts on which arts, culture and nightlife events to see each week.

"The redesign was an opportunity to make the Magazine more useful for our readers. With the addition of the Going Out Guide and The Trend Report, the Magazine will now not only entertain and inform but also help readers decide how to spend their time and resources," said Jenny Abramson, General Manager of The Washington Post Magazine.

The new Magazine hits newsstands this Sunday and is online now at www.washingtonpost.com/magazine, featuring a profile of DC Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee by Marc Fisher.
