Big Red's newly staked property surrounds a showing discovered by Soquem in 1976 where historic trenching assays revealed 1.08% Yttrium (Y), 0.455% Lanthanum (La), 2.63% Niobium (Nb2O5), 0.21% Tantalum (Ta2O5), 7.62% Zirconium (Zr) and 0.025% Thorium (ThO2). The property's 200 metres proximity from the main showing indicates a strong potential for a discovery of rare earth elements on Big Red's under-explored property.
An airborne magnetometer/spectrometer survey will be contracted immediately followed by a detailed program of prospecting, sampling and ground geophysics. This initial program will give Big Red a better understanding of the economic potential of the property.
Rare earth elements (REE), which include minerals such as dysprosium, terbium, thulium, lutetium and yttrium, are widely used in the fields of electronics, aviation, atomic energy, and mechanical manufacturing. They are essential elements to many of the new emerging green technologies such as hybrid and electric vehicles, and wind power generation. The US Government relies on REE for national security and defense systems.
Staking activity in the area has increased dramatically within the past month as shown on GESTIM, the Quebec's Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife mining titles website.
