PowerRating -- Craig T. Bouchard, Illinois State University alumnus and president and vice-chairman of Esmark Inc, will speak in the Old Main room in the Bone Student Center at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25.
Bouchard, along with his brother James, co-wrote the book "America for Sale: How the Foreign Pack Circled and Devoured Esmark." His presentation will focus on his experiences running the $4 billion steel company and the Wall Street battle over its sale.
"We were a small company that went out and took out the big guys," Bouchard said.
He will also discuss the impact of globalization and what the future holds for students.
"We look at the confusing world through a different prism and make predictions," Bouchard said. "I'll give [students] some advice on how to survive and succeed."
"In the big scheme of things, you're competing with everyone," James E. Payne, interim dean and economics professor, said. "I think it's important for them to learn another language and be exposed to another culture."
Even with the global competition, Bouchard encourages students not to be overwhelmed and continue with their goals. He made it clear that anyone can accomplish what he did.
"He has a passion for the University," Payne said. "He feels that students from ISU can compete with anybody."
Bouchard explained how the complex nature of news complicates things and can confuse people. His speech will "boil it all down to something normal people can understand."
"It's a fun discussion," said Bouchard. "There's not a single person that'll fall asleep in there."
