The governor announced that SAIC will invest $25 million and create 1,200 new jobs in Virginia over the next three years, with many of those jobs being created in northern Virginia.
SAIC becomes the seventh Fortune 500 company based in the county. It is the third large corporation to relocate headquarters to Fairfax County from California within the last two years, following CSC and Hilton Hotels Corp. In addition, Volkswagen Group of America Inc. relocated its corporate headquarters to Fairfax County in 2008 from Michigan.
SAIC already is one of Fairfax County's five largest employers with more than 6,000 employees, and it has about 17,500 employees in the Washington area. The SAIC headquarters will be at 1710 SAIC Drive in McLean (Tysons Corner), where the company has had a significant presence for 30 years.
"Having the headquarters of a major corporation locate in your community is always big news. Having a world-class, highly respected company such as SAIC select your community as its home is a landmark event," said Gerald L. Gordon, PhD., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. "Our economy, our community and our collective quality of life just got much stronger."
"As one of the premier centers of technology in the United States, Fairfax County is an excellent business location for our corporate headquarters," said Walt Havenstein, SAIC chief executive officer. "We commend Jerry Gordon and his team at the Economic Development Authority for creating an environment that is very supportive of business."
