According to an ESPN report, Trotter was also given a physical and could be close to signing a contract, but a team spokesman said last night that coach Andy Reid was undecided on the matter.
Attempts to reach Trotter last night were unsuccessful.
Trotter also worked out for the Eagles Thursday, and Reid said the next day that the former Pro Bowl linebacker was moving well after not playing at all last season.
The Eagles released Trotter just before the start of the 2007 season and made Omar Gaither the starting middle linebacker. Trotter signed with Tampa Bay but was used sparingly.
Gaither, back at middle linebacker because of a season-ending injury to projected starter Stewart Bradley, had a team-high nine tackles Sunday in the Eagles' 34-14 rout of Kansas City.
A roster move is likely for the Eagles because quarterback Donovan McNabb is probably going to return to play against Tampa Bay after the bye week. If that happens, Jeff Garcia will likely be released, creating a roster spot, possibly for Trotter.
Rehab row
For most of the Eagles' players, this is a week off.
For McNabb, it's a week to try to get back on the field.
Instead of getting away to his home in Arizona, the quarterback will continue to rehabilitate the fractured rib that has kept him out of the team's last two games.
"He'll be working to get the soreness out in the muscles in between the ribs," Reid said yesterday. "It's not even really the soreness. It's the tightness that he'll be getting stretched out. And then he'll continue to throw. This will be a good week for him to have off and rehab."
McNabb won't be alone at the NovaCare Complex this week. Running back Brian Westbrook will be rehabilitating the sprained right ankle that kept him out of Sunday's win. Receiver Kevin Curtis (sprained left knee), guards Max Jean-Gilles (shoulder inflammation) and Todd Herremans (stress fracture in his left foot), safety Quintin Demps (strained hamstring), and cornerback Dimitri Patterson (fractured hand) are also in trainer Rick Burkholder's rehabilitation program. Jean-Gilles suffered his shoulder injury Sunday.
Reid told the healthy players on his roster to get away from football during the bye week.
The Eagles will likely return to practice Monday.
Celebrate good times
Eagles center Jamaal Jackson suggested that teammate DeSean Jackson might want to be more controlled in his future touchdown celebrations after his acrobatic plunge against the Chiefs, but Reid wasn't overly concerned, even though the second-year receiver was playing with a strained groin.
"Well, it looked like his groin was feeling pretty good right there," Reid said. "Any time you can do that type of thing, you're doing OK."
Extra points
Reid said he has seen improvement in guard Stacy Andrews' surgically repaired right leg, which is why he received playing time with the first-team offense against the Chiefs. Reid said he would continue to alternate Andrews and Jean-Gilles at right guard. . . . The average age of the Eagles' offensive starters Sunday was 24.5 years old. Only three starters -- Jason Avant, Jamaal Jackson, and Jason Peters -- were older than 25.
