Fayette District Judge Julie Muth Goodman Tuesday ordered that Nunn be evaluated by Bluegrass Comprehensive Care at the Fayette County jail in La Grange, Ky., the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader reported.
Prosecutors accuse Nunn, 56, of shooting Amanda Ross, 29, to death Sept. 11 outside her Lexington home. He has pleaded innocent to charges of her murder as well as violating a domestic violence protection order the slain woman had taken out against him.
The newspaper said the Ross family has filed a wrongful death suit against the one-time Republican legislator, accusing him of stalking and threatening Ross in the months leading up to her slaying.
"Obviously we want to pursue this aggressively," R. Burl McCoy, an attorney for Ross' mother, told the Herald-Leader. "It's certainly a sad situation. We're basically trying to draw some attention to the fact that you just can't do this and expect not to be punished in various ways."
