The children are given some snacks on their way to school in the morning, at the point where they cross the road using the Zebra crossing. Apart from that, some company staff also help the children to cross the road.
The company believes all these initiatives form part of their corporate social and community responsibilities.
All expatriates, including management members of the company and their Ghanaian counterparts, take part in this noble exercise as part of a daily activity. "We are all traffic wardens here in the morning," a management member of the company told the press.
ATS, a catering services company in Takoradi, has also been engaged by the company to provide snacks for the 1,400 school kids.
According to management of the company, they begin the exercise from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. in the morning, while in the afternoon, when the pupils close school from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., they repeat the same exercise and help the kids to cross the road to their various homes.
The safety of the school kids is of paramount interest to the company. Aside that, the feeding, they noted, would encourage and motivate the pupils to study.
This initiative, according to management of the company, was in collaboration with the city authorities of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis.
