Debbie Turner plans to use the grant money to purchase classroom activities that can be shared.
"I'm going to buy some games and activities to share with some classroom teachers and have some things to support math in the classrooms," she said.
Turner found out several weeks ago she had been selected to receive the grant.
"I thought, 'Oh my goodness, what good we can do,'" she said.
The activities Turner plans to purchase come from a project called "Priceless Prac-tice," which is designed to create a math activity library for teachers to share.
"We thank OG&E," said Garfield Principal Kathy Edson.
Denise Bowers, of Ring-wood Middle School, also was recipient of an OGE Energy Corp. teacher grant of nearly $1,000. With her grant, Bowers will be able to fund her project "The Science of H.O.P.E.," which allows students to explore solutions to future environmental and energy challenges.
Turner and Bowers are among 35 public school teachers throughout Oklaho-ma and western Arkansas who received OGE teacher grants this year.
"We're glad to do it," said Troy Cowley, of OGE.
The OGE teacher grant program is open to public school kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers in communities in Oklahoma and Arkansas served by OGE subsidiaries OG&E Electric Services and Enogex.
