Sep 30, 2009 (Vanguard/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- LNGLF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- GOVERNORS of Ondo and Ogun states, Dr Olusegun Mimiko and Gbenga Daniel met yesterday in Akure, the Ondo State capital on how to explore economic benefits of the two states, especially in the implementation of the Olokola Free Trade Zone and Liquefied Natural Gas (OKLNG) projects located in the border towns of the two neighbouring states.

The Ogun State governor said President Umar Yar'Adua has given his nod for the implementation of the projects, not only for the benefit of the people of the two states, but for the benefit of entire Nigerians. They agreed in principle that the projects would be of immense benefit to the people of the states and needed to be reinvigorated.

Daniel said he was in the state in order to condole with Mimiko on the loss of prominent indigenes of the state, particularly, Chief Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi (SAN) and Justice Olakunle Orojo and to congratulate him after the Court of Appeal verdict.

Daniel noted that "apart from the fact that the two states share common boundaries ,the political situations that threw the two of them up as governors were similar as both of them had one time or the other dump their political platforms, saying there was need for the two of them to reappraise their common destiny and politics.

He said the Ondo State governor and himself have always been "political soul mates and now that the two states share common economic interest, there is need for the two states to work closely for the benefit of their people."

He assured Mimiko that Ogun State would continue to cooperate with Ondo and ensure that the economic relationship between the states continue to blossom.

According to Governor Daniel, "I am sure that with the relationship that we share, the future is assured for our people in as much as we remain committed to their welfare.

"As you are aware, Ondo and Ogun are sister states, we share common boundaries, although Ondo is an oil rich state, we are quite aware that courtesy of angular driving, some of the oil might be from the other side.

"What is important is that we share the same destiny, we share similar politics and of course Dr Mimiko is one of us in all ramifications, at the beginning he was with us, in the middle, he was with us and today, you know that he is definitely with us." Mimiko while responding said that the states share geographical and historical linkages and now that there is compelling economic interest, there is need to engage in fruitful discussion on the fortunes of the states.

"Let me assure you straight away that we as a state will continue to cooperate with Ogun which is our sister state and ensure that the economic relationship between us continue to blossom.

"I am sure that with the relationship that we share, the future is assured for our people in as much as we remain committed to their welfare. I don't want to comment on the other aspect that we talked about, but I know that if we are related, we will always meet.

"We were together at the beginning of this project and I am sure that with the obvious economic ties between our states, we will always have cause to exchange ideas."
