How the program works
Program content is hosted in a central repository on the company's online customer and partner community (http://community.atg.com), where ATG product and technology experts can add Catalyst Assets as they are developed. These Assets will provide members with ideas, guidance and reference code that enable new extensions to ATG products, and integrations with partner technologies and emerging technologies, such as mobile and social commerce tools. By presenting possible use-cases related to emerging technologies, as well as instructions and code for merchants to leverage, ATG will stimulate creativity and technological advancement among its vast global network of customers and partners.
"In launching the ATG Catalyst Program, we wanted to establish a forum for partners, customers, and internal teams to share ideas, innovations and code," stated Ken Volpe, ATG's senior vice president of products and technology. "The Catalyst Program provides ATG customers and partners inspiration and guidance to leverage emerging technologies. This program complements our overall product strategy and roadmap."
New Catalyst Assets will be continually added in the coming weeks and months. Some of the first Assets ATG has already made available include applications and demonstration code that assist merchants in launching mobile storefronts and integrating popular social networking sites into cross-channel commerce plans. In the first few weeks alone, these Assets have been downloaded by more than 230 developers, who are using the valuable resources to enhance various cross-channel commerce initiatives.
ATG Mobile for the iPhone(R)
One of the first Assets to launch as part of the ATG Catalyst Program, ATG Mobile for the iPhone is a native software application, built on the latest version of the Apple SDK to provide a foundation for sophisticated mobile storefronts optimized for Apple's iPhone(R) and iPod touch(R). ATG Mobile for the iPhone provides a fast, feature-rich and user-friendly framework that can be easily customized for individual brands, clients or campaigns. The native application features an intuitive interface with flexible screen layouts for customer-specific styling, and embraces and leverages typical iPhone features and user experience, so merchants can create mobile stores that are compelling and appealing to iPhone and iPod Touch users.
The framework empowers merchandisers with the ability to easily change the presentation of mobile promotional content, while also supporting basic and advanced registration, and check-out processes that make it easy for end-users to complete transactions. ATG Mobile for the iPhone was developed using the same core commerce functions that ATG customers use to power their Web stores, which means customers can seamlessly transition across channels, and their shopping cart and registration details will follow them wherever they go.
ATG Social Rewards
Additionally, ATG customers and partners are able to use the ATG Social Rewards Asset to extend e-commerce sites powered by the ATG Commerce platform to social networks like Twitter and Facebook. This module enables users to share information about a product with their favorite social networks and provides a means of rewarding the user for sharing by awarding "Social Rewards Points" to the user's profile, which can then be used for any personalization activity, including discount promotions and benefits.
"ATG customers and partners are among the most innovative when it comes to adopting emerging technologies that add to the customer experience and ultimately drive revenue," said Nina McIntyre, ATG's senior vice president of marketing and chief marketing officer. "Important new mobile device applications and social commerce networks are delighting customers and shopping habits are changing on a daily basis. Our customers need to experiment in this space, engage their consumers and prospects, and change their approach just as quickly as consumers change their habits. The ATG Catalyst Program is an open-source-inspired initiative that will help the brands who have put their trust in ATG leverage expertise and creative ideas from our strong community of developers and partners."
Assets for Extending Other Technologies and Investments
Instructions and code are available to help merchants maximize their investments in other ATG products, as well. An example of this would be adding the Catalog Connector Asset to Web stores, which simplifies the process of integrating ATG Recommendations with existing product catalogs. Another example involves utilizing the Interests Module Asset, a code extension that enables the tracking of customer behavior on a site (whether anonymous or authenticated) and stores that information so it can be used for personalization purposes.
